Helix Piercing Bristol | Cartilage Piercing

The helix is one of the most versatile and popular ear piercings around — and for good reason. Whether you want a single stud sitting quietly at the top of your ear or you're building out a full ear stack, Keren at Moonchild Modifications in Bristol will help you place it perfectly.

We're based on Filton Avenue in Horfield and offer helix and cartilage piercing to clients from across Bristol including Bishopston, Redland, Clifton, and Filton.

What Is a Helix Piercing?

The helix is the outer rim of the upper ear. It's a broad area and where exactly you place a helix piercing changes the whole look. High helix, mid helix, forward helix — each one has a different feel and works differently as part of an overall ear layout.

Types of Helix Piercing We Offer

  • Single helix

  • Double helix

  • Triple helix

  • Forward helix (the small piercings that sit near the tragus)

  • Flat helix (on the inner upper ear shelf)

Ear Curation and Stacking

If you're thinking about multiple piercings and how they'll work together, we can help you plan the full layout. Ear curation — mapping out a collection of piercings that work as a set — is something we genuinely enjoy doing at Moonchild. We'll look at your ear shape, existing piercings, and what you're going for, and help you build a plan across multiple appointments.

What to Expect at Your Helix Piercing Appointment

  • Placement discussion and ear mapping

  • Marked and checked before anything is pierced — you approve it first

  • Single-use sterile needle

  • Implant-grade titanium flat back labret or ring as standard

  • Full aftercare guidance

Helix Piercing Aftercare

Cartilage takes longer to heal than lobes. Being patient pays off.

  • Healing time: 6 to 12 months

  • Clean twice daily with a sterile saline spray

  • Don't rotate or twist the jewellery

  • Sleep on the opposite ear or use a travel pillow with a hole during healing

  • Avoid pressing a phone against the piercing

  • Do not change jewellery until fully healed

Jewellery Options

We use implant-grade titanium flat back labrets or seamless rings depending on your preference and anatomy. We stock a range of coloured titanium and gem options. Once healed, we can help you upgrade to solid gold pieces from our in-store range.

Frequently Asked Questions — Helix Piercing Bristol

  • How much does a helix piercing cost in Bristol? - See our price list for current pricing, or contact us on 07463 144768.

  • Does a helix piercing hurt? - There's a sharp pressure sensation during the piercing followed by a dull throb for a short while after. Most people find it very manageable. Cartilage piercings can be more tender during healing than lobe piercings.

  • How long does a helix piercing take to heal? - 6 to 12 months. Cartilage heals slowly — don't change the jewellery early.

  • Can I sleep on a fresh helix piercing? - We advise sleeping on the opposite side or using a travel pillow during the healing period to avoid putting pressure on the piercing.

  • Can I get multiple helix piercings in one appointment? - Yes, though we generally recommend spacing them out to allow each piercing to heal well. We'll advise at your consultation.

  • What is the minimum age for a helix piercing? - We pierce clients aged 13 and over for cartilage piercings with a parent or guardian present. 16 and over without parental consent.
