Ear Piercing Bristol — Adults and Children

Whether it's your child's first lobe piercing or you're adding to your own ear stack, ear piercing is something that should be done properly from the start. At Moonchild Modifications on Filton Avenue, Bristol, we use needle piercing only. No guns, no trauma, no compromises.

We're one of the few studios in Bristol that takes children's ear piercing as seriously as adult piercing — because the stakes are just as high, and the process deserves just as much care.

Why We Never Use a Piercing Gun

This is something every parent in Bristol should know before booking their child's first piercing.

Piercing guns work by forcing a blunt stud through the earlobe using pressure. They cannot be fully sterilised between clients. The blunt force causes unnecessary tissue damage, a more painful experience, and a significantly higher risk of infection, scarring, and keloid formation — particularly in children whose skin is more sensitive.

A sterile single-use needle creates a clean, precise incision that heals faster and more comfortably. It's the method used by every reputable professional body piercer in the country, and it's the only method Keren uses at Moonchild.

If a studio near you uses a gun, walk out.

What Ear Piercings Do We Offer?

  • Earlobe piercing — single or double, adults and children

  • First-time ear piercings

  • Lobe re-piercing (if a previous piercing has closed)

Note: cartilage piercings such as helix, tragus, and conch are also available. See our Helix Piercing page for more.

Children's Ear Piercing at Moonchild Modifications

We pierce children aged 8 and over for standard lobe piercings. We know how to make the experience calm and positive for children who are nervous — Keren is patient, warm, and takes the time to explain everything to both child and parent before starting.

  • Minimum age: 8 years old for earlobe piercings

  • A parent or guardian must be present throughout the appointment

  • Valid ID may be required for the parent or guardian

  • We use implant-grade titanium starter jewellery — hypoallergenic and safe for sensitive skin

  • Both ears can be pierced in one appointment

We never rush children. If your child changes their mind on the day, there is no pressure and no problem.

What to Expect at the Appointment

Keren will greet you and your child, explain exactly what will happen, and mark the placement before anything is pierced. You'll approve the position. The actual piercing takes a couple of seconds. Aftercare instructions are provided in writing so you leave knowing exactly what to do.

Ear Piercing Aftercare

  • Clean twice daily with a sterile saline spray

  • Do not rotate or twist the jewellery — this is a common myth that actually causes irritation

  • Avoid submerging in swimming pools or the sea during healing

  • Healing time: 6 to 9 months for earlobes

Jewellery Options

All starter jewellery is implant-grade titanium — available in silver, gold, and rose gold tones, with flat disc or gem ends. Simple, safe, and suitable for school. Once healed, we can help with upgrades.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ear Piercing Bristol

  • What is the minimum age for ear piercing at Moonchild? - We pierce children aged 8 and over for standard earlobe piercings. A parent or guardian must be present.

  • Do you pierce babies or toddlers? - No. We believe ear piercing should be the child's choice. Our minimum age is 8.

  • How much does children's ear piercing cost in Bristol? - Please check our price list or contact us for current pricing. Both ears can be pierced in one appointment.

  • Is needle piercing more painful than a gun? - Many children and adults actually report less pain with a needle than a gun. The needle is sharper and faster — the gun's blunt force is what causes the sharp sting and prolonged soreness.

  • What if my child is nervous? - That's completely normal and we're very experienced with nervous first-timers. Keren will take as much time as needed and will never rush the appointment.

  • Can my child swim after getting their ears pierced? - We recommend avoiding swimming pools, hot tubs, and the sea for at least 4 to 6 weeks, and ideally until healing is well established.

  • How long does ear piercing take to heal? - Earlobes typically take 6 to 9 months to fully heal, though they may feel comfortable much sooner. Don't change the jewellery until healing is complete.

  • Do you do walk-in ear piercings? - We accept walk-ins when availability allows, but booking in advance is recommended, especially for children's appointments.
